Michael is an Associate Consultant within Rutherford’s Private Practice Legal team, specialising in placing newly qualified and qualified solicitors at leading US, UK and international law firms in London.
He trained at a leading US law firm in London, completing seats in Private Equity, Corporate Tech & Life Sciences (M&A and VC), Private Investment Funds and Finance. Through his experience across multiple asset classes and investment strategies, he gained first-hand insight into complex corporate transactions, the expectations of a sophisticated and varied client base, the distinctions between practice areas, and the mechanics of the internal and external NQ process.
Originally from Auckland, New Zealand, Michael studied at the University of Cambridge and gained early legal experience at Chapman Tripp, rotating through the Litigation and Construction teams. He maintains a strong understanding of the New Zealand and Australian legal markets and works closely with Aussie and Kiwi-qualified associates exploring transitions to London, advising on positioning, qualification pathways and long-term career strategy.
His approach is structured and relationship-driven, reflecting his belief that early career decisions compound and materially shape long-term professional trajectories.
