How to Choose Your NQ Practice Area

Abstract glass architecture in Canary Wharf, London

The practice area you qualify into will influence the work you undertake, the clients you advise and the opportunities available throughout your legal career.

Rather than choosing solely based on the seat you enjoyed most, consider what specifically appealed to you. This might include the technical challenge, client contact, pace of work, level of collaboration or commercial context.

Market demand also matters. Practice areas respond differently to economic conditions, regulatory change and technological development. Think about the long-term demand for the expertise you will build and how easily that experience could transfer across firms, sectors or jurisdictions.
